This city is the cultural center for the Hunsrik in the region with dance groups and German music. This city is one of our target cities. We feel that God is leading us to begin a church here.
Pray that a house church will be planted here. Waterfall Panelão
This waterfall is off the beaten path but represents the beauty that is easily found in this mountainous region. God has truly blessed these German descendants but most do not even notice Him today.
Pray that God will become real to them. Café Colonial
Among the Germanic peoples the Café Colonial is one of the many traditional meals. This area is a bread basket for Brazil because of the many small family owned farms. Due to drought and a devaluing of the agricultural life, many of these farms are disappearing.
Pray that this would become a bridge for the spread of the Truth. The Meal
Served in this traditional meal are various types of salame, cheeses, breads, juices, jams, and jellies. The Table
The table is as much a part of the preparation as the food itself inviting hungery guests to eat in community.
Pray that this would become a tool for new disciples and new churches in the region. It's an Event
Eating and conversing together builds relationships among the Hunsrik. If you are invited to dinner in a home, it is a high honor.
Pray for families to open their homes and their refrigerators to God. Park
The town squares are beautifully landscaped with flowers, trees, and shrubs. This occurs in the parks as well as with each home. Community
People come to the parks to drink tea together and enjoy the day. Tourists come in droves
People come to the city from the large metro area of Porto Alegre to get away and enjoy the beauty and simplicity of the small town. The Labyrinth
This wonderful landscape creation draws many onlookers and invites one-and-all to accept the challenge of reaching the center.
Pray for church planters who are willing to tackle the task of seeing a church planted in a home within walking distance of every Germanic descendant, 1 for every 500 people. Families
Families and friends come to sit in the park while the children play. To win the opportunity to share you do not need another evangelistic program. Rather we need people who are willing to sit and visit. Araucária
The Brazilian pine tree grows throughout the region and produces a wonderful nut that is eaten after boiling or roasting. The gospel has been shared over many cups of tea and many bowls of nuts. Immigrants Monument
This monument is in the main park honoring their ancestors who came to Brazil from Europe. Respect of the past needs to be combined with hope in Christ for today. Germanic Music Bands
Bands form a part of the culture and are often sought to welcome visitors in tourist areas and at dances. Wouldn't it be wonderful if musicians turned their hearts to Christ and began playing music in the house churches. The Accordian
The Accordian is a part of the music among the Germanic peoples as well as the traditional Gauchos (Brazilian Cowboys). Dance Groups
Dance groups travel throughout the country and even to Europe. They are important in maintaining cultural cohesion. Shop Owners
Little shops line the streets and parks. Here 90% of the people continue to speak Hunsrik. Immigrant Park
Immigrant Park contains many of the original buildings in the 'Fachwerk' style that the original immigrants built.
Remembering the past is wonderful but pray that the Germanic peoples do not also put the faith in God that their ancestors demonstrated into the museum as well. Pray for them to follow the Word in obedience.
Thank you for praying for the people of Nova Petrópolis.
